With the defection of two Democrats, the House voted along party lines last week to endorse the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said repeatedly that impeachment needed to be bipartisan, otherwise it wood be to divisive for our country. Apparently, she now feels that not impeaching the president would be too divisive for her party, so she’s choosing her party over the country.
For five weeks House Democrats have been holding secret witness testimony in the basement of the Capital allowing only representatives from 3 committee groups to attend. No one, other than the members of the three committees, was even allowed access to see the transcripts. The cloak of secrecy however did not stop the Schiff and Pelosi cherry-picked leaks, to bolster the Democrats claims against the president.
The purported objective of Thursday’s vote was to provide some transparency to the American people and due process fo the President. Before this resolution was passed Republicans had no power to subpoena witnesses. Alas, the GOP can now bring forth their own witnesses…with the approval of “the chair”.
Let’s remember who is currently chairing the impeachment proceedings. Adam Schiff- the congressman from California who repeatedly lied to the American people claiming that he had seen evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia. In 2017 Schiff was recorded trying to solicit “naked pictures of Trump” from whom he thought was an Ukrainian official, but was actually a Russian prankster. And the latest- at the start of the impeachment inquiry, with no disclaimer, Schiff read a fabricated damning version of the Trump call with the president of Ukraine into the congressional record. Long story short- no, President Trump will not have a fair opportunity to defend himself.
President Trump is not even allowed to have his counsel appear until the proceedings move to the Judiciary Committee. Even then the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee Jerry Nadler, has discretion to disallow the participation of the president’s counsel.
The left has trivialized the objections of Republican lawmakers who claim that the process is rigged against the President, as just a diversionary tactic. Democrats accuse Republicans of not being able to defend the substance of the accusations so they resort to criticizing the process. However, due process and a framework of rules is what separates our country from banana republics. Further, how can the substance be adequately defended when Republicans aren’t equal participants in the process?
Democrats have been scheming to remove President Trump from office since the night he was elected. On inauguration day, acknowledging that the left would be on a mission to remove Trump, The Washington Post published an article entitled, “The impeachment begins”. It’s not a leap to believe that every Never Trump deep state operative has been scrutinizing Trump’s every move looking for an opportunity to remove him from office.
No president in modern times has been under the same level of scrutiny as President Trump. The numerous investigations and the innumerable leaks by those wanting to harm his presidency have been unprecedented. Even NBC News in an April 2019 article wrote, ” There is no doubt, current and former intelligence officials say, that there has been an outpouring of leaks meant to push back against Trump administration policies, including the sorts of disclosures rarely seen before.”
Trump’s call with the President of Ukraine isn’t the first conversation with a foreign leader to be exposed. The contents of phone calls with both the Prime minister of Australia and the President of Mexico were also illicitly divulged to the media in an attempt to discredit the president. According to NBC the Trump administration has averaged 104 leaks per year. By comparison – the Obama administration, 39 a year
It’s doubtful any president could have held up unscathed with so many in powerful positions in our government looking under every rock to expose a misstep.
Apparently Democrats beloved they have finally uncovered their smoking gun to end Trump’s presidency. According to the Constitution- A president “shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors”.
During Trump’s July 25th phone call with President Zelensky of Ukraine, two requests were made. After President Zelensky mentioned corruption in Ukraine President Trump asked President Zelensky to look into whether the former Vice President of the United States Joe Biden, corruptly urged that the Ukrainian prosecutor, who was investigating his son’s employer, be fired. That’s it. A singular issue involving the former vice president. Not a dirt-finding expedition on Trump’s political opponent as has been repeatedly parroted by the left. Moreover, its entirely believable that Trump would have made this request even if Biden was not a presidential candidate.
Just because Biden is now running for president does not give him immunity for his past actions as Vice President . In actuality, because he is a candidate for the most powerful position in the world, scrutiny should be even greater at this time.
President Trump also requested that President Zelensky look into Ukraine’s involvement in the Russian collusion hoax. There is concrete evidence that a DNC operative conspired with the Ukrainian embassy to dig up Russian dirt on then candidate Trump and members of his campaign during the 2016 election. There is even a recording of a Ukrainian official stating that he took active measures to benefit Clinton’s campaign. In December 2018 two Ukrainian officials Artem Sytnyk and Serhily Leshchenko were found guilty of meddling in the U.S. election in a Ukrainian court of law. In spite of the many investigations Ukraine’s meddling in the 2016 election has never been fully investigated. Who could fault the President for wanting to hold those accountable for the Russian cloud that hung over his presidency for three years?
President Trump’s phone call may not have been “perfect”, but “treason”, “high crimes”, “bribery” and “misdemeanor”? Not even close. The left is making the case that Trump ordered the withholding of military aid until Ukraine began the requested investigations. Facts- Ukrainian officials did not know that the aid was withheld until 5 weeks after the call, when an article appeared in Politico. Trump never even mentioned military aid during the call. Further, the aid was released on September 11, even though no new Ukrainian investigations had begun. Another important point- President Zelensky has stated unequivocally that he felt no pressure to act. How can there be a quid pro quo if Ukraine was unaware?
Clearly there was no quid pro quo. Trump, who’s not known for subtlety, never even mentioned military aid during the infamous “smoking gun” phone call. However, based on the whistleblower, and leaked testimony, some of the witnesses, not all, have claimed that they believe Trump attempted to leverage the aid in return for investigations. The fact is that a quid pro quo scenario never happened. The only way to know what Trump intended, is to take him at his word , or read his thoughts. Are we really going to overturn a duly elected president, negating the votes of 63 million Americans, based on what some, who appear to have political motivations, are surmising was in Trump’s mind?
Democrats are aware that they need to move quickly. Information proving that deep state operatives attempted to prevent, then harm Trump’s presidency, is expected to be released soon. Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz, informed lawmakers last week that his report on Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuses, which lead to the surveillance of a Trump campaign aide-Carter Page, is nearly finalized.
U.S. Attorney John Durham’s probe into potential FBI and Justice Department malfeasance during the 2016 presidential campaign through the spring of 2017, has now become a criminal inquiry. This is a clear indication that wrongdoing was found.
It’s obvious that Democrats are not operating in good faith and are intent on impeaching the president. The proceedings in the House are just a technicality. Shamefully, they decided to impeach the president on the night he was elected.
