In only the last two months 500,000 migrants illegally entered the United States via the southern border- and these are just the ones processed by border patrol. Approximately 2,000 enter the US and evade capture, also known as “got aways”, every day. Since Biden has been in office, including the known got aways, more than 3 million migrants have breached the southern border.
Despite the ongoing crisis at the border, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Maryorkas, with a straight face, recently told Congress that the Biden administration has “effectively managed” and has “operational control” of the border. Maryorkas also claimed to have “inherited a broken, dismantled system.”
Mayorkas is lying on all counts. Despite inheriting the most secure border in decades, it is now in chaos -solely because of Biden’s actions. On his first day as president, Biden began dismantling the Trump-era immigration policies, effectively opening the border to every foreign national who finds their way to the US.
The Migrant Protection Protocols, commonly referred to as Remain in Mexico, is one of the Trump-era immigration policies reversed by Biden. This agreement between Mexico and the US allowed migrants applying for asylum in the US to wait in Mexico pending their asylum hearing. The Trump-negotiated agreement effectively put an end to “catch and release”- the practice of allowing migrants to live in the US pending their asylum hearings, which can take as long as six years, and many never show.
According to Maryorkas, the Biden administration repealed Remain in Mexico because they believed the high crime rate in Mexico made conditions unsafe for migrants. In other words, there are many dangerous people south of the border, so their solution is to open the US border and invite them all to live in the US.
How many violent criminals did the Biden administration usher into the US with the dismantling of almost every Trump-era border security initiative? They have no idea. Because there is no international criminal database, checking the criminal background of a foreign national who committed a crime outside of the US is very difficult. Moreover, the sheer numbers of migrants flowing over the border make appropriate vetting an impossibility. Not to mention many migrants do not even have identification.
In just the last 6 months there have been 300,000 known got aways. In March alone, there were over 62,000. No one knows who they are nor where in the US they are. It is a statistical certainty that among the hundreds of thousands of got aways, who have crossed into the US since Biden took office, are dangerous criminals, gang members, and possible terrorists. With almost non-existent border enforcement, there is no reason for a migrant to flee border patrol unless they have something to hide.
In response to an inquiry by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), the Department of Homeland Security acknowledged that they apprehended 42 people attempting to enter the US, who are in the FBI’s terrorist screening database. When Rep Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) asked Maryorkas at a Congressional hearing if any of the 42 suspected terrorists were released into the US, shockingly, Mayorkas replied, “I don’t know”.
According to DHS, they apprehended approximately 500 gang members at the border since Biden became president. Disturbingly, even after the deportation of migrants deemed dangerous, there is nothing to stop them from making another attempt to enter the US. Thanks to regulatory changes made by Maryorkas, illegally entering the US is no longer a crime. Migrants can attempt to enter the US as many times as they want- there are zero repercussions.
The only Trump-era immigration policy remaining is Title 42-a public health measure allowing for the quick deportation of migrants due to Covid. Although the Biden administration has made many exemptions and deported less than half of those apprehended, it is the only remaining enforcement mechanism.
In April approximately 250,000 illegally crossed into the US- 113,000 were removed. Title 42 was used to remove 96,908 of those deported. Based on past statistics it can be surmised that without Title 42, almost every foreign national who makes their way to the border will be allowed to live in the US.
On May 23 the CDC is set to lift Title 42. As a consequence, DHS is anticipating an unprecedented deluge of migrants to the border – 18,000 migrants a day. Currently, 7-8000 are apprehended daily. In 2019 Obama’s DHS secretary, Jeh Johnson declared that any number over 1000 a day is a crisis. Even with Title 42 in place, the situation at the border is out of control.
In an interview with Fox News Brett Baier, Mayorkas claimed he has no control over the CDC’s ending Title 42. This may be true. However, he could secure the border immediately by reinstating Remain in Mexico. Unfortunately, this will not happen because the Biden administration does not want to solve the border crisis they created. Our nation’s sovereignty and national security are not their priorities- Ideology and allegiance to the Democratic party always take precedent.
The Biden administration has put forth no plan to enforce the border, prevent or even discourage the anticipated influx of migrants after the reversal of Title 42. However, they do have a plan to erect “soft sided” tent compounds to house the upcoming massive invasion of migrants. They are also planning to provide additional support to nongovernmental groups and charities (which are already supported by taxpayer funds) that provide shelter and transportation to migrants.
The Biden administration is also creating “Interim Rules” set to go into effect on May 31. The new rules will allow for the bypassing of immigration judges, making it easier for migrants to gain asylum. In opposition to the asylum process changes, Texas attorney general Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security. Paxton’s suit claims-
“In summary, the Interim Rule transfers significant authority from immigration judges to asylum officers, grants those asylum officers significant additional authority, limits immigration-judge review to denials of applications, and upends the entire adjudicatory system to the benefit of aliens.”
According to Jon Solomon of Just The News, the new rules allow asylum claimants who lose at the immigration court level to appeal to Customs and Immigration Service. Unbelievably, if they lose at both, they are still eligible for parole and may be released into the United States.
Former White House immigration adviser to President Trump, John Zadrozny, told Just the News- the new rules “create an endless loop of review that will prevent an alien from really ever being removed under the expedited removal process.” He added, “We’re calling this the ‘Alien always wins rule’ because that’s basically what it is: it’s designed to prevent them from [ever] getting a final negative adjudication authorizing their removal from the country.”
If the Biden administration gets its way, an expected 500,000 foreign nationals will illegally breach the southern border next month. At this pace, 6.5 million illegal migrants will enter the US in just one year. Rather than increase border security, the administration plans to use resources to process migrants faster and make it easier for them to claim asylum.
The only hope is that the courts block both the ending of Title 42 and the new “Interim rules”, and protect our nation from the current administration. If not, Biden’s “success” will be America’s failure.
