Vice President Kamala Harris and every Biden administration official who claims that the southern border is closed is lying. Truth- the border is wide open. Illegal border crossings are up 674% from the same time last year. In May, more than 180,000 migrants illegally entered the U.S. This does not even include the 1,000 “getaways”- migrants who evade capture and therefore not processed by border security- who illegally enter the U.S. every day.
Undeniably the surge to the border is the direct result of Biden’s reversal of every Trump-era immigration policy that had effectively solved the border crisis. While in effect, Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” and “Safe Third Country” programs had secured the southern border by providing a bulwark against those looking to game our asylum laws.
The Biden administration has not only refused to attempt to fix the problem they created, this past week Biden took actions that will encourage and further expand the rush of migrants surging to the border.
Last week Attorney General Merrick Garland reversed a Trump administration’s ruling that disallowed claimed fears of domestic abuse and gang violence as acceptable reasons to apply for asylum in the United States. This move will effectively allow every foreign national in the world to claim asylum in the U.S.
Under this change, every migrant from a high-crime nation can now apply for asylum in the U.S. In other words, every resident of Central America and Mexico has a legitimate claim for U.S. asylum. Moreover, any foreign national in the world, especially women, could easily falsely assert domestic abuse victimization. How can U.S. officials effectively vet this claim? These changes are nothing short of inviting massive fraudulent claims of asylum.
The Biden administration has also reinstated an Obama-era policy to expand the number of Central American children eligible to come and live in the U.S. Yes- expand. Never mind that since Biden has been president, a record number of migrant children have been entering the U.S, at great expense to U.S. taxpayers.
In 2014 the Obama administration created the “Central American Minors” (CAM) program, which allowed the children of those granted U.S. protected status, and children of permanent residents residing in the U.S. to apply for admission to the U.S.
Former President Trump rightfully terminated the program claiming it was beyond the scope of the president’s power to grant immigration pathways without the consent of Congress.
The Biden administration not only reinstated the CAM program in March, last week they extended the program to all children of Central American migrants awaiting adjudication of their U.S. asylum claims. Based on immigration data, this expansion of CAM will make tens of thousands of Central American children newly eligible to qualify for this program.
Under the newly expanded CAM program, migrant children will also be provided U.S. tax-payer-funded air transportation from their home country to the U.S.
The Biden administration also announced that as of Wednesday, migrants ordered deported under the Trump’s Remain in Mexico program are invited back to the U.S. to reapply. Those eligible to reopen their cases could exceed 30,000.
President Biden tasked Kamala Harris with overseeing the border crisis 91 days ago. Yet, just today, Harris announced that she will finally make her first trip as Vice President to the border on Friday. However, she is only visiting the Rio Grande Valley, which is 800 miles from the epicenter of the border crisis. Further, it is undeniable that Harris was pressured into this visit because of former President Trump’s upcoming trip to the border next Wednesday.
Despite not visiting the U.S. border, a few weeks ago Harris traveled to Guatemala, ostensibly to get to the “root” of why Central Americans are fleeing their countries to the U.S. It is telling that the Biden administration cares more about the needs of foreign nationals than the welfare of American citizens.
Embarrassingly, the President of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, answered Harris’ question. According to Giammattei, migrants are encouraged by the policy changes and rhetoric of the Biden administration.
“They [Biden administration] stated that they were going to support family reunification…So the coyotes came and took the children and teenagers to the United States…And the border filled up. Not only with people from Guatemala, but lots of people.”
President Giammattei is right. It is not just migrants from Central America coming over the border. This fiscal year almost a million foreign nationals from more than 160 countries, including countries known for supporting terrorists, have been apprehended at the border.
On average, 5800 migrants per day are currently entering the U.S. through the open Southern border. Due to Biden’s immigration policy, less than 60% of those who breach the southern border are deported. If this pace continues, by 2024, Biden’s open border policies could allow four million migrants entry into the U.S.
It is not just impoverished migrants looking for a better life who are making their way across our unsecured border. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas has recently seen an 800% increase from the same time last year in the amount of fentanyl coming across the border. How much fentanyl and other drugs have passed into the country undetected?
The truth is no one knows who or what is coming across the border and the consequences this will have on our nation’s future.
Incredibly, when even those half-aware can see that there is a crisis at the border, Biden and Harris not only deny there is a problem, they are continuing to enact policies to make the situation worse.
Last week the Biden administration shifted $2 billion, allocated to construct the Southern border wall, to pay contractors to stop construction and remove their equipment.
Thankfully some Republican governors have picked up the slack where the Biden administration has abdicated its responsibilities to the citizens of the U.S.
Texas Governor Abbott has announced a $250 million down payment of a state-led project to build “hundreds of miles” of border wall, and he plans to use his deputies and troopers to arrest migrants for trespassing. To help secure the border, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts, and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp are all sending law enforcement to the U.S.-Mexico border.
Dozens of House Republicans have also signed a letter urging Biden to remove Harris from her designated role as point person on the border crisis.
Unfortunately, the current administration cares more about pleasing their base and empowering the Democratic party, than pursuing the best interest of the American people. But, thanks to our former president, after 93 days V.P. Harris is finally forced to pretend to care about the sovereignty of our nation.
