Since Joe Biden became president, illegal immigration has been at record highs. Within the first few months, his administration reversed every Trump-era immigration policy which had given the US the most secure border in decades, except for one, Title 42. Beginning on May 23, the Biden administration is repealing Title 42.
Title 42 is a public health policy invoked under Trump, which allows for the rapid expulsion of migrants due to the pandemic and public health concerns. Although Biden exempted families, unaccompanied children, and even some single men from enforcement of the policy, the rule allowed for the rapid expulsion of many single men. According to the Migrant Policy Institute, 55% of the encounters at the border led to deportations.
