After what was promised by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Maryorkas to take “days, not weeks”, ten months later, the investigation into the horseback riding border patrol agents accused of whipping Haitian migrants has concluded.
During a press conference Friday afternoon, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Chris Magnus stated:
“The Office of Professional Responsiblity found no evidence border patrol agents involved in this incident struck any person with their reins intentionally or otherwise.” He added that none of the agents were “even carrying whips.” The so-called whips were split reins used by agents to guide their horses.
However, the agents are not wholly exonerated. The 511-page report lists numerous acts of “wrongdoing”. According to Magnus, one agent was found to have maneuvered around a child in an “unsafe manner,” and used “denigrating and offensive comments regarding a migrant’s national origin and gender”.
The so-called offensive words used by the agent:
“Hey! You use your women? This is why your country’s s***, you use your women for this.”
Reminder-when the incident occurred, up to 15,000 Haitian migrants were camped under the international bridge in Del Rio while waiting to be processed into the US to claim asylum. Were they leaving their life behind, trekking to the US because Haiti is a great place to live? Of course not. The worst an honest person could say about the agent’s words is that they were critical of the law-breaking migrants ignoring his commands. Is it a job requirement for border patrol to be polite to those illegally entering the US?
Magnus also stated that several agents used “force or the threat of force to drive migrants back over the Rio Grande River”. As evidenced by the fact that none of the migrants had any injuries, the agents did not use excessive force. Are border patrol agents prohibited from using any force? It is hard to fathom how agents can effectively secure the border under such restrictions. Undoubtedly, that is the idea- these findings make securing the border impossible for border patrol.
Unfortunately, the outcome of the investigation was predetermined. Fueled by the mainstream media and even the President, a narrative of racism and injustice immediately emerged in describing the altercations between the Haitian migrants and border patrol.
Even after the photographer who took the footage rebuked the whipping accusations, the false claims continued. Recall an outraged Biden called the images “horrible” and falsely remarked-
“To be treated like they did. Horses nearly running them over, people being strapped. It’s outrageous.” He added, “I promise you those people will pay…there will be consequences.”
Maryorkas, who initially remained neutral, also fueled the false narrative stating that the agents’ actions exemplified America’s “systemic racism”. And “it does not “reflect who we are, who we aspire to be…”
The Vice President, who never misses an opportunity to decry racism, chimed in, claiming the images evoked slavery, saying that the situation brought to mind how such tactics have been “used against the Indigenous people of our country…and African Americans during times of slavery.”
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and numerous other Democratic lawmakers, along with virtually every mainstream news anchor and pundit, also joined in with the chorus of voices vilifying the agents.
The liberal mob demanded the investigation find misconduct. Hence, a 10- month-long probe looking for any possible wrongdoing to vindicate the Biden administration and appease their fellow Democrats.
Reportedly the “offending” agents will receive unpaid suspensions for up to 14 days. Shamefully, vilification and monetary punishment are the rewards for defending our nation’s national security and sovereignty.
.
If Biden had integrity, he would apologize to the border agents he falsely smeared. But he does not, so he will not. Nor will the prominent Democrats who also spread the lies. Sadly, the DHS report gives them cover.
