As the Kyle Rittenhouse trial nears the end, one thing is clear- Rittenhouse is not a murderer. However, before a full investigation could have been completed, within less than 48 hours after the tragic night in August 2020, the Kenosha DA charged Rittenhouse with five counts, including first-degree intentional homicide. The media and Democratic lawmakers took it from there, labeling Rittenhouse a domestic terrorist motivated by racism.
The narrative spun by the media was a lie from the beginning. They even premised the reason for the riots on a falsehood. On August 23, 2020, Jacob Blake, a black man from Kenosha, Wisconsin, was shot multiple times by a white police officer, incurring life-altering injuries. The media portrayed Blake as an unarmed victim brutalized by police because of the color of his skin.
Feeding off the violence that erupted after the May killing of George Floyd, the city of Kenosha erupted in arson, looting, and violence. However, an extensive investigation revealed that the innocent portrayal of Blake was a lie. Blake was armed and violent. Investigators deemed the shooting a justifiable use of force.
The media portrayed Rittenhouse as a vigilante crossing state lines with a rifle, motivated by racial animus. The truth – Antioch, Illinois, Rittenhouse’s home is less than a 1/2 hour drive from Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse did not bring his gun illegally across state lines, he stored it in a safe at a friend’s house in Kenosha. It is also not illegal for a 17-year-old to possess a gun in Wisconsin. Further, Rittenhouse worked in Kenosha and his father, grandmother, cousins, aunt, and best friend lived in Kenosha. He regarded Kenosha as “my community”.
And despite Joe Biden and other prominent people branding Rittenhouse as a white supremacist, there is zero evidence that his decision to defend Kenosha against rioters was racially motivated. Rittenhouse handed over his phone to law enforcement who found no evidence that he belonged to a militia group, or was a white supremacist. Moreover, the three men shot by Rittenhouse were white.
Rittenhouse Wanted To “Protect Businesses”
After two nights of riots, looting, and arson, Rittenhouse testified that on the third night, he went to Kenosha with the intent to defend private property under siege and provide medical assistance to the injured.
A video editor from the Daily Caller interviewed Rittenhouse a couple of hours before the shootings in front of a Kenosha car dealership that he was protecting. In a brief exchange caught on video Rittenhouse says that he is there to “protect businesses” and provide medical assistance. Along with a gun, Rittenhouse brought a medical kit.
During his testimony, Rittenhouse described guarding a car dealership, giving first aid to protesters, cleaning up graffiti and putting out fires started by rioters. Not exactly the actions of someone with malicious intent.
Perhaps if the Governor of Wisconsin called in the National Guard to protect the people and businesses in Kenosha and the Democrats in power did not condone the riots, dismissing them as “peaceful protests”, a 17-year-old boy would not have felt compelled to arm himself to protect his city.
Joseph Rosenbaum
Rosenbaum, the first man shot by Rittenhouse, was a convicted child rapist who had just been released from a psychiatric hospital that day. Rosenbaum was not on the street that night to peacefully protest racism.
Rittenhouse testified seeing Rosenbaum swinging a heavy chain and setting fires. Later he heard Rosenbaum scream that he was going to kill Rittenhouse and “cut our hearts out”, referring to those Rittenhouse was with protecting a car dealership.
Right before the shooting, surveillance and cell phone video footage shows Rosenbaum chasing Rittenhouse. During the chase, Joshua Ziminski, who earlier pointed his gun at Rittenhouse and encouraged Rosenbaum to kill him, escalated the situation by firing his gun.
As Rosenbaum gained on Rittenhouse, Rittenhouse turned around, and Rosenbaum lunged at him. Rittenhouse testified that he was “coming at me. I remember his hand on the barrel of my gun”. Fearing that Rosenbaum would kill him with his own rifle, Rittenhouse fired at Rosenbaum, killing him.
Multiple videos and Dr. Doug Kelly, a pathologist from the Milwaukee County medical examiner’s office, corroborate Rittenhouse’s depiction of events. Dr. Kelly testified that Rosenbaum was shot at close range and had soot injuries indicating his hand was over the barrel of Rittenhouse’s rifle.
Anthony Huber
After shooting Rosenbaum, Rittenhouse testified that he attempted to run to the police to surrender. However, he was chased by an angry mob screaming -“cranium him, get him, kill him”.
While Rittenhouse attempted to flee the mob, Anthony Huber, a convicted felon with a record of assault and domestic abuse, swung his skateboard like a bat striking Rittenhouse in the neck.
Another person threw a concrete brick at Rittenhouse’s head, knocking him to the ground. Subsequently, another man kicked him in the face. In a prone position, Huber hit Rittenhouse again with his skateboard and tried to grab his gun, causing Rittenhouse to fire the fatal shot at Huber.
Gage Grosskeurtz
Gage Grosskeurtz, a self-described Marxist with an “affiliation” with a Marxist militia group – the People’s Revolution, was shot in the arm by Rittenhouse.
After the shooting of Huber, an armed Grosskeurtz approached Rittenhouse. During cross-examination, Grosskeurtz admitted that he pointed his gun at Rittenhouse before Rittenhouse shot him.
Rittenhouse’s defense attorney:
“It wasn’t until you pointed your gun at him, advanced on him-that he fired, right?”
Grosskeurtz: “Correct”
Despite the media portrayals and the unfounded comments by those on the left, the evidence is clear Kyle Rittenhouse acted in self-defense. Sadly, a 17-year-old boy cared more about restoring law and order to his city than those in charge.
