The released testimony by the House Ways and Means Committee from two IRS whistleblowers stunningly confirms the partisan rot in the federal government.
IRS supervisory agent Gary Shapley and an unidentified IRS agent both contend that Biden’s Department of Justice intervened in the investigation into Hunter Biden’s tax issues, characterized by the committee with a “delay, divulge and deny” campaign to protect the president’s son and in turn the president.
The committee learned that recurring unjustified delays pervaded the Hunter Biden investigation, ultimately letting the statute of limitations expire on the more serious of Hunter’s tax violations allowing him to evade prosecution for crimes committed in 2014 and 2015. Shapley testified that:
“The years in question included foreign income from Burisma and a scheme to evade his income taxes through a partnership with a convicted felon.”
He added that “the purposeful exclusion of the 2014 and 2015 years sanitized the most substantive conduct and concealed material facts.”
Further, last year investigators attempted to charge Hunter with felony tax crimes committed in 2017 and 2018. However, Biden’s DOJ blocked those actions. Hunter underreported his income in 2017 by around $580,000 and $620,000 in 2018, per Shapley.
US Attorney of Delaware David Weiss tried to bring felony charges against Hunter in Southern California and DC last year but was blocked each time. DOJ also denied Weiss’ request for Special Counsel status, which he sought last Spring.
So much for the truthfulness of Garland’s testimony. In sworn Senate testimony last year, Garland insisted that “the US attorney has been advised that he has full authority to make those referrals you’re talking about, or to bring cases in other districts if he needs to do that.”
When questioned about Garland’s statement, Shapley replied:
“I don’t have any first-hand information into why Garland said that, but to all of us who have been in the October 7th meeting with Weiss this was clearly false testimony.”
Shapley described a meeting at Delaware US Attorney’s office, David Weiss. Weiss informed the group of FBI and IRS officials that he tried to bring charges against Hunter in DC for tax crimes on the income he earned from Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings but Biden-appointed US Attorney Matthew Graves refused to prosecute. Shapley’s contemporaneous notes of the meeting, which he immediately emailed to his superiors, back up the veracity of his claims.
According to the second whistleblower, foreign nationals from Ukraine, Russia, and China paid Hunter and his business partners $17.3 million from 2014-2019. Hunter’s share amounted to a whopping $8.3 million.
House Oversight Committee chairman James Comer believes that members of the Biden family may have received more than $40 million from foreign nationals in exchange for favorable policy decisions.
To this day, there is no legitimate explanation for why foreign corporations paid a degenerate crack addict millions of dollars for no discernible products or services in return.
The complicated labyrinth of shell companies and bank accounts utilized by the Biden family to receive payments from foreign “business partners” is another glaring red flag that an unbiased FBI would be curious to investigate. Unfortunately, that is not the case.
According to the whistleblowers, the FBI authenticated Hunter’s laptop, where much information about his foreign business dealings are contained, in November 2019, a year before the presidential election and the release of the election meddling letter written by 51 former intelligence officials, characterizing the contents of the laptop as Russian disinformation.
However, despite knowing the information on the laptop was legitimate, top FBI officials never gave investigators access to it. In fact, the FBI actively attempted to censor the laptop story, encouraging Facebook and Twitter to prohibit the publication of its contents in the weeks and days leading up to the 2020 election.
Shapley also contends Biden’s DOJ instructed investigators “to not look into anything related to President Biden.” According to his testimony, they wanted to interview one of Hunter’s business partners, Rob Walker, about an email he received that referenced “ten held by H for the big guy.” Shapley explained that they had “obvious questions like who was “H”, who the “big guy” was, and why this percentage was to be held separately with the association hidden.”
“But”, Shapley continued, “AUSA Wolf interjected and said she did not want to ask about the big guy and stated she did not want to ask questions about “dad”.
Shockingly, the DOJ even prevented the authentication of a Whatsapp message, which implicated Joe Biden, sent by Hunter Biden to a Chinese official. According to one of the whistleblowers:
“We obtained a July 30th, 2017 Whatsapp message from Hunter Biden to Henry Zhao, where Hunter Biden wrote: ‘I’m siting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled.Tell the director I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. And Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.'”
Within ten days of Hunter’s message to Zhao, a communist party official who worked with Chinese energy company CEFC Energy, wired $5.1 million from a business account he shared with the daughter of the former minister of state security in China, the man in charge of foreign and international espionage for the communist Chinese regime, to the Biden family business, Hudson West III, according to bank records obtained by Senators Grassley and Johnson.
US Attorney Leslie Wolf (a Democrat, who in 2020 donated to pro-Biden ActBlue) told investigators “there’s no way” a search warrant for evidence would get approved because, according to Shapley, Wolf said “Optics were a big factor on whether to execute a search warrant. She said that a lot of evidence would be found in the guest house of former Vice President Biden, but there is no way we will get that approved.”
For those wondering if Hunter was truthful about his father sitting next to him when he messaged Zhao, photos on his laptop place him at Joe Biden’s Delaware home on July 30, 2017. It appears Joe Biden was also in Delaware around this time. A photo obtained by the committee indicates Biden was at a restaurant ten minutes away from the family home on July 28.
Investigators requested GPS data on Hunter and Joe Biden for July 30, 2017, but DOJ denied their request.
In a move of pure corruption, the whistleblowers contend that Wolf also notified Hunter’s attorneys that investigators had probable cause to search his North Virginia storage unit, allowing them the opportunity to remove incriminating evidence.
Shapley testified that the investigation of Hunter Biden “has been handled differently than any investigation I’ve ever been a part of for the past 14 years of my IRS service”.
Not surprisingly, every Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee voted against releasing the whistleblowers’ testimony. Apparently, Democratic lawmakers do not mind corruption in their government when they are the benefactors.
But, all Americans who believe equal justice under the law is an important principle of a functioning democracy should care when the government weaponizes its power to both protect the favored and destroy the politically disfavored.
The Hunter Biden sweetheart deal is just the latest evidence of how partisan our nation’s premier law enforcement agency has become. The FBI meddled in the 2016 election with Russian collusion to propel Hillary Clinton, then dogged Trump’s entire presidency with endless investigations and leaks. In the 2022 election, they slow-walked the Hunter Biden investigation and censored the release of information from Hunter’s laptop to protect Joe Biden. And now, ahead of the 2024 election, the DOJ has declared all-out war on the leading Republican candidate for president – former President Trump.
The Republican-led House will likely begin impeachment proceedings against AG Garland next week, but this is insufficient. Garland is a partisan disgrace who undoubtedly abused his power to affect a political agenda, but the problems at the DOJ predate Garland. Impeaching Garland hopefully is just the start of rooting out corruption in the DOJ and FBI and restoring free and fair elections absent the hands of unelected government officials.
