Tucker Carlson’s Twitter show launched on Tuesday, and his ex-employer is not a fan. Fox News notified Carlson’s lawyers on Wednesday, claiming that the former prime-time anchor violated his contract with the network.
Carlson’s new show on Twitter consisted of a ten-minute monologue analyzing current events, similar to the opening monologue on his former show, which Fox summarily fired him from. A testament to Carlson’s influence and popularity, within only 24 hours, his video had received almost a 100 million views.
Carlson’s lawyers assert that legal action against Carlson violated his first amendment rights.
In a statement to Axios-
“Fox defends is very existence on freedom of speech grounds. Now they want to take Tucker Carlin’s right to speak freely away from him because he took to social media to share his thoughts on Curren events.”
Carlson’s lawyers also contend that Fox breached the contract with Carlson stating that Fox executives broke promises to Carlson “intentionally and with reckless disregard for the truth.” Notably, Carlson’s attorneys assert that Fox leaked Carlson’s private communications to the media and broke an agreement not “to take any adverse employment action against him”.
If Fox has their way Carlson will be silenced until after the 2024 presidential election. Carlon’s contract with Fox runs through 2025.
