Earlier this month, the New York Post revealed New York City Mayor Adams will provide pre-paid debit cards to illegals, costing NY taxpayers $53 million. After the story broke, when outrage ensued, Adams countered, asserting the program was small, only involving 500 migrant families who will be permitted to use the cards for food and baby supplies only. How will this be enforced? The illegals, whose first act on American soil was to break US immigration law, will be required to sign an affidavit swearing they will only use the cards for food and baby supplies – foolproof.
Laughably, Adams also claimed the program will save NY taxpayers money, solving the problem of wasted taxpayer-funded food rejected by illegal migrants.
As egregious as the $53 million new entitlement program for those who should not even be in the US sounds, a New York Post analysis revealed it is so much worse than Adams’ deceptive claims.
First off, the Post reports, the $53 million is not the number allotted to illegals – it is the amount the minority-owned business, Mobility Capital Finance, given a no-bid contract by the city, could potentially receive for just administering the cash cards. The $53 million figure does not even include the money migrants will receive on the cards.
According to the Post, the contract the city entered into with MoCaFi gives the flexibility to dole out an astounding $2.5 billion in cash payments on the debit cards.
On Tuesday, city officials objected to the Post’s expose, claiming the $53 million covered fees to MOCAFI, as well as cash payments to illegals as part of the one-year pilot program. Even if this is true, the city has close to 100,000 and counting illegals on the US taxpayer dole. How much will the new entitlement program cost after the first pilot year when it expands? And why are non-citizens who broke US immigration law entitled to any US taxpayer money?
Incredibly, foreigners who illegally invaded our nation are awarded free housing, transportation, medical care, legal services, and education, and now New York will give them cold, hard, untraceable cash. Under the $53 million pilot program, an illegal family of four will receive $15,200 a year of taxpayer-funded money.
The recipients of the cards are not even required to provide ID as noted in the contract, “cardholders will not be subject to ID verification”. MoCaFi will deliver blank debit cards to the city, and city officials will be responsible for loading them with cash- up to “$10,000 per card”- and distributing them to those residing illegally in New York. What could possibly go wrong with a no-eligibility requirements entitlement program where career bureaucrats are tasked with handing out untraceable cash to illegal foreign nationals with no ID?
Even for sanctuary city, solidly blue New York, this is insanity.
